About Laurelfield
Laurelfield Business Advisory — established 2012 in Taipei, advising small and mid-sized firms on Taiwan market entry planning and regulatory navigation.
Registered business
Laurelfield Business Advisory is the official registered name of our firm. We operate from our Taipei office and serve clients across Asia-Pacific, Europe, and North America who are planning or executing their first Taiwan market presence.
Established: 2012
Our history
Laurelfield began when founder Eleanor Watanabe left a regional trade consultancy to focus exclusively on firms too small for the large advisory houses but too complex for generic export guides. The first engagements were with Japanese specialty food exporters navigating Taiwan FDA registration — work that revealed how often mid-sized firms underestimated permitting timelines.
By 2015, the practice had expanded to industrial components and professional services. We added partner screening after several clients signed distributor agreements that collapsed within a year due to undisclosed financial stress. That experience shaped our structured due diligence methodology, which remains central to our work.
In 2019, we formalized the 12-month entry roadmap format now used in our flagship planning engagement. Today, Laurelfield works with roughly 25 to 30 active engagements per year, maintaining a deliberately limited caseload so each client receives advisor attention rather than junior analyst handoffs.
How we work
We are advisors, not operators. We do not incorporate companies, file registrations, or manage warehouses on your behalf. Our value is clarity: mapping what must happen, in what order, at what cost, and with what risks — before you commit.
Every engagement starts with a candid fit conversation. If your sector falls outside our experience, we say so and refer you to a specialist rather than stretching into unfamiliar territory.
Our team
- Eleanor Watanabe — Founder, sector lead for food and beverage import
- David Kuo — Regulatory mapping, manufacturing and industrial components
- Sarah Lin — Partner screening and channel strategy
- Michael O’Brien — Professional services and regional office setup
Values we hold
Accuracy over optimism. Entry timelines in our reports reflect permit processing realities, not best-case scenarios.
Client context first. We read your existing distributor emails, prior legal memos, and product specs before forming recommendations.
Taiwan grounded. Our advisors live and work in Taipei. Site visits, authority meetings, and partner interviews happen locally, not from a distant research desk.
Community
Laurelfield advisors occasionally speak at Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) briefings for first-time exporters. We do not accept referral fees from law firms or distributors we recommend.
